Teen Sexting
The
consequences of teen sexting are brutal, and it comes in all different
shapes and sizes. Being that you are aware of the new mobile devices and
appliances that we have available to us you may also be aware of the
danger that presents itself in the form of security issues, a reputation
and the type of information that other people can access. If you are a
teen and you are unaware of the consequence that you could face, then do
know that depending on your area, it can be a felony.
With teen
sexting, you could face the same punishment as would an adult. Although,
they are trying to make this a misdemeanor for young children, it
hasn’t passed in legislation yet. My best piece of advice towards you is
to prevent this behavior altogether by dismaying the initiation of any
sexual behavior. If you see this type of communication starting, and you
expect that other person to start sending you inappropriate pictures or
videos than stop the conversation and that type of behavior
immediately. It’s both the sender and the receiver who are going to
receive the punishment. Although, that doesn’t seem fair it is still
considered to be child pornography. If you are under the age of 18 years
of age then it is severe and if you are the receiver being over the age
of 18 and a minor sent it to you then it will most often result in a
heavy sentence.
With teen sexting, as a parent, you should inform
your children if you are going to give them the freedom in holding a
phone. To prevent this then don’t allow texting to send in their phone
and cut out the internet access. As a parent and as a customer to a
phone company you do have the freedom to make restrictions on your
child’s phone. You have the accessibility to who they are calling and
what types of messages they are sending to other people. Take a look at
your bill plan and see how many picture messages they are sending. Don’t
be afraid to speak to them about this behavior because it’s only
preventing further damage if there has been any sort of sexting going
on.
Concerning teen sexting, even if your child is 18 and old
enough to make their own decision, warn them of blackmail and how this
could easily be posted on the internet for the entire world to see. Why
is it so important to stress this type of information towards children
at a young age? Some children are unaware of how inappropriate certain
behavior is until they have to deal with the repercussions. If a school
administrator were to get a hold of this material, then it will result
in an expulsion, and local enforcement may be contacted for even further
punishment. Unfortunately, it will affect a child or a teenager for the
rest of their lives… even if it is only their reputation. Don’t let it
get to that point by advising your children at an early age.
