Flying cars: Fundamental concept design unveiled
A lot of people have wished for a personal flying machine to lift us out of irritating traffic jams and deposit us on our driveways. With new advances in materials, power sources & automation, those dreams may become reality more quickly than many of us realize. US aerospace start-up Terrafugia unveiled the TF-X, a concept design for a radical latest type of personal air transport vehicle. So many people are talked to Carl Dietrich, who is the co-founder of the company, to find out how the flyiing car might be work.

We think this is the right time to begin seriously looking at the challenges related with creating what people call a flying car, Carl Dietrich says. "The vision is tried to create the future of personal transportation, which is people have dreamed regarding for years”. Carl Dietrich believes all the necessary technology already exists, and that primary discussions with the US Federal Aviation Administration propose existing regulatory obstacles can be overcome.

Terrafugia is presently one of a number of companies who proposing personal aviation & it has been taking orders for an earlier design – the Transition, a road-legal aero-plane with foldable wings for several years. The TF-X design is more revolutionary, but is more likely to provide what most of us dream of when we think of flying cars.

The main selling point of the flyiing car is the ability to take off and lands vertically like a helicopter. Into car mode, the plug-in hybrid can rely on flyiing car electric motors & battery packs. For the lift-off flyiing car needs extra power which is from hydrocarbon combustion engine. Folded winglets are comprehensive. 2 huge motor pods on either side of the vehicle are pointed vertically up & the propellers provide lift. Each pod has sixsteen independent electric motors, with its own controller & battery pack, meaning a failure is not disastrous.

When the flyiing car attains the necessary altitude the pods start to point forward. A ducted fan at the stern provides thrust & the wings start to operate as a straight aerodynamic surface to provide lift as accelerates. At the flyiing car full speed the propellers on the ends of the pods fold back & the   vehicle enters “cruise” mode. The TF-X flyiing car has a highest speed of 200 miles per hour and a proposed range of 500 miles.
